N°15 | JEUX CONCERTANTS
JEUX CONCERTANTS
On the program for Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain’s concert: three atypical concertos that question the instrumentation, and in the same time the very essence of the concertante dialogue and its theatrical qualities.

Michel van der Aa’s Transit for piano and video opens up a dialogue between the movements of the pianist, of great theatrical force, and the video projection, the focus shifting between the screen and the piano keyboard. The old man trapped in his own house and the virtuoso pianist present in flesh on stage echo each other; they find in each other an answer, an adversary even, in a battle that can have no winners. For her piano concerto, Clara Ianotta takes a step aside and chooses to bravely work with the solo instrument, as well as the ensemble that accompanies it, by testing qualities that are not specific to it. In the case of the piano, it may be the lengthening of the duration of a note, altering the timbre of a sound while it is being played, imagining resonances independent of the played keys… As for Ondrej Adámek, he performs his firs concerto on an instrument he has conceived and developed himself: the Air Machine. The guarantee of a musical experience completely out of the ordinary!
