N°23 | MIROIRS FRACTALS
MIROIRS FRACTALS
Tombeau and Double are two pieces by Alberto Posadas for prepared viola, written in the memory of Gérard Mortier. They relate to the Baroque period by the use of the “Tombeau” genre, but also through the manner in which they are linked together, similar to that which related a dance to its “double”.

Whereas the double Baroque was essentially an ornament of the initial piece, here the idea of ornamentation is replaced by that of fractalisation: Double “immerses” itself and zooms in on Tombeau. Attuned to the first piece, the second is a rereading of the musical text at a smaller scale, reproducing the exact construction of Tombeau, but with more depth of detail. Viola player Christophe Desardins offers a mirrored musical journey, from Early to Contemporary, covering more than three centuries of music history. He offers some Ricercari of Domenico Gabrielli, secret garden of the componer of the end of XVIIth century, in which the form is freely deployed.
